AMA has worked with the University of the Arts London (in particular Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion) to consolidate 13 different sites into one new campus at Kings Cross. AMA was appointed to create a user needs brief through a consultative process with college representatives. The London College of Fashion and St Martin’s College of Art, both part of the University of the Arts London, were planning a joint relocation to a new site in King’s Cross in the next few years, and sought to maximise the possibilities such a move offered. With this is mind AMA was appointed in 2006 to create a user needs brief through a consultative process with college representatives. Apart from steering group meetings and ‘all staff’ meetings, over 200 people attended interviews or focus groups, and more than 1,000 staff and students responded to questionnaires. Changes in teaching and learning practice, technology, and accommodation requirements were addressed. All existing spaces in all buildings were visited, photographed and analysed, to help make judgements on future space needs.
